Artist Bio

Creating artwork has been a part of Pat Wagner's life since childhood. Her object as an artist is to communicate part of the wonder, awe and pleasure she feels as she observes and responds to the natural world. Her special focus is portraying light as it sculpts form.

She won a number of art awards while exhibiting her work in numerous art shows throughout California.

Pat's artwork has been published. Her cover artwork for World Vision International magazine was named the best original art out of all Christian magazine covers one year at the Evangelical Press Association Annual Awards Ceremony in Chicago.

Pat is a graduate of California State University at Long Beach, California, where she majored in Drawing and Painting. She also took graduate courses at Claremont graduate School and took classes at the Art Center College of design in Pasadena, California, and the California Art Institute in Calabasas.

She has also been an art teacher and taught art at Biola University in La Mirada, California, for a period of time.

Two of her great-uncles were successful painters. One of them, Carl Bohnen, was commissioned to paint portraits of seven governors of the state of Minnesota. These portraits are on display in the state capital in St. Paul.

Another great-uncle, Aloys Bohnen, was a four-year scholarship student of Robert Henri, who was one of the greatest art teachers in the early part of the twentieth century.

Aloys became Pat's first real art teacher. She vividly remembers creating a science notebook in the fifth grade combining writing with her wildlife illustrations. Aloys helped her with the project by teaching his young student how to draw as she created the book. The notebook assisted her to win a special prize in science that year.

Pat's desire as an artist is to portray the fascinating play of light on form and communicate the beauty she is experiencing. "For with Thee is the fountain of life: in Thy light shall we see light (Psalms 36:9).
